All religions started from someone's understanding, perception and philosophy of how life works. It gives it's followers suggestions on how to best deal with the multitude of choices and decisions that will be presented for you to find your unique way.

Many of these individuals would spend time alone and practice their ideas to see if they fared well in everyday life. Then small groups would form who were in agreement with these perceptions and understanding to live their lives practicing the beliefs and guidelines of the founder's understanding of the world and how it works.

What we experience today is the multitude of different perceptions and understandings of how the world works and how God, the angels and the realms of Spirit work as well.

Jesus and the Teachings of the Essenes point out clearly the importance of living in harmony with nature, your body, other people and having a daily time of communion, meditation or contemplation with God, the Angels and Nature. Jesus taught the importance of listening.
Listening is the first step to understanding. Until you are willing to listen, to surrender your ideas about a given situation you will not experience UNDERSTANDING..When you are able to listen and let go of your personal ideas of a situation UNDERSTANDING can come in. You've created the space, the environment that allows you to see, feel and hear more than you were able to on your own, with just your perception of a given situation.
How many times in your life have you said, "I just don't understand!"
Do these times correspond to when you were not able to see a situation from another's perspective?
Understanding requires that you reconcile your perception with someone else's perception. It takes you from your myopic view of life into the inclusion and validation of another whose perception may be different from your own. Some people find this easy to do and other do not based on our experiences of including others, sharing and valuing others that we had in our childhood. We come to this at times handicapped. We haven't learned how to respect others with different perceptions and opinions.
This comes up on a regular basis with spiritual people. Everyone's idea or understanding of what's spiritual is different. If we live our truth from our hearts we can't expect everyone else to be our clone. True understanding is a maturity of respecting other's perceptions, beliefs, ways of life even if they would not feel at all comfortable for you. You may not want to be a Mormon but you can respect their right to choose that belief.
How can we be more understanding of ourselves, our shortcomings and the areas we need growth in and be more tolerant of others in their growth?
You rarely need to point out someone else's shortcomings to them, they'll normally reflect on their actions and behavior and work to improve themselves. And for those who don't want to reflect or look at themselves, life will provide them with the necessary people and situations they need for their learning and growth. Be patient.
Understanding this, you can step back, resist the desire to teach then what you think they need to learn and trust the Universe, trust the process of life. We all go through it, we all learn what our souls wanted to and we all become wiser for the journey.
Allowing others to be themselves is the gift of Understanding. When you no longer have a charge on their behavior it changes because you have changed.
Understanding is a gift. It doesn't always come when we want it to but when it does, celebrate it and give thanks for it.
A lot of understanding comes from being in the same situation as someone else. We usually say, "I understand, that happened to me." We feel a release of the held emotions and so does the person we are speaking with. Then both of us can let go and be free.
Let the Peace that passeth all understanding reside in you this day.
